When we published The Ball Debate in October, our verdict on Selkirk's Pro S1 was the bluntest line in the piece: it will not crack — Selkirk's warranty is real — but it goes out of shape very quickly, and an out-of-round ball produces bad bounces. Selkirk has now shipped the answer. The Pro S2, out since mid-October, is built specifically to fix the shape problem, and its warranty now covers the exact failure we called out. And this time, Gear Wire hasn't just read the spec sheet: our editor was one of the first players at his club to get the S2 on court.
Above: the S2 on one card — the new build, the new warranty, and our first eight games. Selkirk has released no publishable product photo for our use, so the card is a Heartland graphic, not a product shot.
What Selkirk changed
The S1 was rotomolded. The S2 is injection-molded — a true-round build, in Selkirk's framing, designed to come out of the mold round and stay that way. Around that build:
- The hole pattern: a patented 38-hole geodesic layout in three hole sizes — 7.5 mm, 6.5 mm, and 4 mm — laid out for consistent flight.
- The material and specs: TPE construction with a textured surface, 0.91 oz and 2.91 inches in diameter, in a brighter yellow than the S1.
- The positioning: harder and faster than the S1 — Selkirk says so plainly — and the official ball of the APP Asia Tour.
- The warranty: one year, covering both cracking and going out of round. Selkirk calls that an industry first, and it is the headline here: the S1's warranty covered the failure that didn't happen (cracks) and not the one that did (shape). This one covers both.
Selkirk's lab claim — labeled a claim, because it is one: the company says the S2 took 3,000 shots from a 110 MPH durability cannon with no cracks and stayed round. That is a serious number if it holds up in the wild. The wild, as usual, gets a vote — see the Editor's View below.
Price and availability
At selkirk.com, checked November 1: $14.99 for a 3-pack ($5.00 a ball) and $39.99 for a 12-pack ($3.33 a ball). Both packs were sold out there when we checked — which tracks with what we're seeing locally: this ball is out, but it is not yet everywhere, and getting it early still takes some luck or some timing.

The Editor's View — from our courts
Gear Wire doesn't do hands-on verdicts unless we've actually played the thing. We've played this one — eight games outdoors so far, and among the first at our club to do it. This part is ours, in the editor's own words, edited for print.
Pace. “Pace is very similar to a Lifetime — much hotter than the Franklin X-40 and the S1.” That is a bigger jump than Selkirk's own “harder and faster than the S1” framing: in our comparison, the LT Pro 48 sits at the top of the pace chart, so this puts the S2 level with the hottest ball we've tested, not just ahead of its predecessor.
Roundness — the test that matters. “The roundness of the S1 was a huge issue. After about 15 to 20 points, you'd notice the ball going out of round — particularly with harder-hitting players. With the S2, we played eight games outside and had no roundness issues at all. It's early, but based on the feel and what we've seen, it's definitely more consistent, and it has that harder feel as advertised — very similar to the Lifetime.” Eight games is not a lifetime, and we'll update this when the same balls have real mileage on them. But the S1 showed its flaw inside a single game. The S2 hasn't shown it in eight.
Spin. “Spin was noticeably different for me. On the Lifetime, I feel a loss of spin — particularly on a slice or heavy topspin. You get some of that back with the S2. Not to the same degree as the softer Franklin, but there's more of a spin dynamic in play versus the Lifetime.”
Color and visibility. “The other noticeable difference is the color and visibility. The Lifetime has, in my mind, a bit of a greenish tint. The S2 is a bright, bright yellow — really good for outdoor play, and for dusk play or under the lights. Indoors it's probably not a factor either way, but the visibility is higher, from my perspective.”
Cracking. Too early to say, and we won't pretend otherwise: nothing has cracked in eight games, and nothing has had much chance to. The S1's no-crack record was genuine, and the S2 starts with that pedigree — but the cracking verdict, like the long-term roundness verdict, gets written after a season, not a weekend.
Where it lands in the comparison
The S2 now takes a full column in The Ball Debate, next to the LT Pro 48, the JOOLA HC-40, the Franklin X-40, and its own predecessor — five balls, with the Franklin X-44 still to come this winter. On first play, its shape is distinctive: LT-level pace, a spin feel the LT doesn't quite give back, the strongest warranty in the group, and a top-of-the-group price in the small pack. Whether it earns that price over a full season is the roundness question, and the roundness question is now a warranty question too — which is exactly the ground Selkirk chose to fight on.
