The Selkirk LABS Project Boomstik is the paddle in our editor's hand right now — a $333 LABS Project paddle, and the power baseline every other paddle in this section gets measured against. Until now its Gear File has carried a placeholder: currently in play, full Editor's View to come. This is that Editor's View, in the editor's own words — the power, the sweet spot, the learning curve at the net, and the warranty replacement that put a second Boomstik in his bag.
Above: the Boomstik on one card — the price, and our first-play findings from league play. The card is a Heartland graphic, not a product shot.
The paddle in hand
Start with what is on the record, because Gear Wire keeps the record separate from the verdict. The Boomstik is a Selkirk LABS Project paddle, priced at $333, checked November 1, 2026. It is the paddle the editor currently plays, in league play now. No hours, game counts, or venues are attached to that claim, because none are needed: this is not a weekend demo. It is the paddle he reaches for when the games count.
It is also a paddle with a successor dated — the Boomstik ST launches November 10 — and everything in the Editor's View below is the baseline that launch has to beat. The successor context gets its own section below.
The Editor's View — from our courts
Gear Wire doesn't do hands-on verdicts unless we've actually played the thing. We've played this one — it is the editor's current paddle, in his hands for league play now. This part is ours, in the editor's own words, edited for print.
Power. “Its power is unmatched.” Not the most powerful paddle in a category, or the most powerful Selkirk he has owned — unmatched, full stop, against the previous Selkirk, JOOLA, and CRBN TruFoam paddles he has played. That is the standard the Power FX was measured against in its first play, and it is why “rivals the Boomstik” printed as a headline there.
The sweet spot. “I found the sweet spot to be far more forgiving than the previous Selkirk, JOOLA, and CRBN TruFoam paddles I have played with.” Power paddles usually tax you for missing the middle. This one, in the editor's play, gives more of the miss back — far more, in his words — and that forgiveness is a large part of why it stayed in his hand.
The learning curve. “There is a bit of a learning curve to harness the power and get comfortable at the net with more pop.” The adjustment is real, and it lives at the kitchen line: the same pop that ends rallies from the baseline has to be managed on blocks, resets, and dinks. Comfortable comes — but it is earned, not instant, and new owners should budget for it.
The warranty, used. “I have utilized the no-questions-asked warranty policy from Selkirk on the Boomstik, and it was very easy to replace when I had the guard come loose slightly on my first version.” The edge guard on his first Boomstik came loose slightly; Selkirk's no-questions-asked replacement was, in his account, very easy. The paddle he plays now is his second unit — which makes this a firsthand warranty note, not a reading of the warranty page.
The successor context
The Boomstik does not get the last word this month. Its successor, the Boomstik ST, launches November 10 — the full record of what Selkirk has and hasn't said about it is in our Boomstik ST first look. Read together, the two pieces are the before picture and the launch: this is the $333 LABS Project paddle as played, by the player who plays it, and the ST is the paddle that has to improve on this — unmatched power, a forgiving sweet spot, and a net game you have to learn.
The bottom line
If you want the most powerful paddle the editor has played, with a sweet spot that forgives more than the power tier usually does, this is it — at $333, with a learning curve at the net priced in. And if the edge guard ever gives you trouble, the editor can tell you from his own bag how the warranty conversation goes: easily, and with a replacement in hand.

The Editor's View in this piece is Heartland's own play experience — the Selkirk LABS Project Boomstik is the paddle the editor currently plays, in league play now — labeled as such and kept separate from the manufacturer's claims, which are identified as claims.
